The Inter-municipal association of deaf and hard of hearing Čačak is one of the oldest organisations for disabled people, it was formed in 1956. The association is based in Čačak but also includes adjoining municipalities Upper Milanovac, Lučani i Ivanjica. The aim of the association is to provide material and social support and assistance to deaf and hard of hearing people from their early years to old age.

The association was given premises in 1970 – a building as a centre for deaf and hard of hearing people. The building is over 50 years old, with very little refurbishment being done to it over the years. In order to improve the environment and make the building more comfortable for its members and improve its energy efficiency to reduce running costs, the association initiated a refurbishment programme of the centre. At the time there were about 200 members using the centre.

During the refurbishment programme, the association received financial assistance from BSBT for:

  • Repairs to the roof of the building

  • Internal refurbishment

  • Loft insulation
